Multivoting 1

Definition : A voting process that narrows a broad list of ideas to those that are most important.

Purpose : Used to narrow a list of ideas to the critical few worthy of immediate attention.

Procedure :
  • Using a predetermined list of ideas, consider whether any are the same or similar
  • Ask the group - especially those who identified the items in question - whether similar items may be grouped together.
  • If the group agrees, combine the duplicate items (or the similar items).
  • Number each item on the new list.
  • Determine the number of points that will be assigned to the list by each group member.
  • Allow several minutes for group members to independently assign their points to one or more of the items on the list.
  • Indicate each member's point allocation on the list.
  • Tally the votes for each item on the list.
  • Note the items that received the greatest number of points.
