QUALITY IMPROVEMENT TOOLS AND TECHNIQUES

Brainstorming 1

Definition : A structured process for generating a list of ideas about an issue in a short amount of time.
   
Purpose :

At any stage of the quality improvement process, brainstorm to generate lists of

  • topics to assess,
  • process components,
  • topics for data collection,
  • problems, and
  • potential solutions.
   
Procedure :
  • Define the subject of the brainstorming session.
  • Allow time to think briefly about the issue.
  • Set a time limit for brainstorming.
  • Have each group member call out his or her idea in a predetermined order.
  • When the brainstorming session is complete, clarify the ideas generated.
