Primary Care Public Health Nursing Service

 

III.        Other public health services 

 

Professional Development and Quality Assurance

(Education and Training Centre in Family Medicine, and Families Clinics)  

l              Provide clinical nursing services including health assessment, wound care, administration of medications and collection of specimens etc;

l              Plan, implement and evaluate health education and health promotion activities;

l              Provide psychosocial support to clients via counseling;

l              Participate in Enhanced Smoking Cessation Services and provide nicotine or non-nicotine replacement therapy;

l              Participate in epidemiological surveys/studies to enhance disease prevention and control;

l              Assist in training programmes for staff to equip them with the required job related knowledge and skills to meet service needs.

 

 

Tobacco Control Office

l              Participate in tobacco control programmes and related health promotion activities;

l              Plan and implement health education and health promotion activities;

l              Provide telephone counseling through the Smoking Cessation Hotline;

l              Provide support for and supervise Smoke Free Ambassadors working in the smoking cessation clinics of Department of Health;

l              Work in collaboration with other organizations and healthcare professionals to promote smoke-free culture at community level.

 


Port Health Office

Airport Section:

Ÿ              Participate in managing emergencies/air disasters and provide nursing support on scene;

Ÿ              Implement health screening and surveillance measures to prevent the introduction of quarantinable diseases into the territory;

Ÿ              Participate in service operations in response to disease outbreaks or public health issues;

Ÿ              Provide support and training for health surveillance assistants working in Port Health Service.

 

Harbour Section:

Ÿ             Participate in the inspection of medical facilities on board the ship and assist in the issue of 'Ship Sanitation Control Exemption Certificate';

Ÿ              Participate in managing emergencies and provide nursing support on scene;

Ÿ              Participate in service operations in response to disease outbreaks or public health issues.

 

Travel Health Centres:

Ÿ              Conduct travel health risk assessment for travelers;

Ÿ              Give health advice counseling to travelers on risk-reduction measures;

Ÿ              Administer travel-related immunization or prophylactic medications to travelers as indicated.

 

Nurses working in the three sections also participate in the education and promotion of travel health for travelers leaving Hong Kong as well as in the conduction of travel health surveys.
