Cervical Smear Screening in MCHC

Why Cervical Smear Screening in MCHCs?

According to the information provided by the Department of Health, cervical cancer ranked fourth among the top ten reported new cases of cancer in women in 2001.  In response to the pledge in the 2001 Policy Address, a 'Territory Wide Cervical Screening Programme' is to be implemented.  Thus, an easy and acceptable access to screening will surely encourage women to take the cervical smear examination and allow early detection and timely treatment of any cancer-prone or cancerous cervical lesions.  The MCHCs, with their long history and well-established health promotion services, are places well known by and non-threatening to women.  Moreover, there are more than 30 MCHCs across the territory.  Because of their accessibility and acceptability, all MCHCs have been included for the launching of the 'Territory Wide Cervical Screening Programme' since 8 March 2004.
