Roles of a Public Health Nurse "Breastfeeding: An Outdated Practice or an Updated Trend?" What have nurses gained from promoting breastfeeding? Nurses can certainly put their breastfeeding knowledge into practice when helping lactating mothers to breastfeed their babies. They gain high job satisfaction from being able to exercise autonomy in conducting need assessment, making nursing diagnosis, taking decisions, and working with clients in solving problems. Nurses no longer find themselves just passive workers carrying out orders, but realize that they have an important role to play in advocating and promoting the health of mother, child and the family via contributing to breastfeeding promotion. The success in promoting breastfeeding in the FHS not only gives the nurses a sense of achievement and raised self-esteem, it also brings along the clients' positive feedback, compliment and gratitude. These are driving forces for nurses to continue to pursue excellence in delivering quality care to their clients. I am sure my colleagues share this view with me. | ||||
