Primary Care Public Health Nursing Service

Interflow Between Public Health Nurses

and Visitors From China

To promote the public health nursing services in Hong Kong and allow interchange of professional knowledge and experience, the Public Health Nursing Division had received 4 groups of visitors from China in 2010. They comprised 68 nursing academics and health care professionals and administrators from different provinces of China. A briefing session followed by a visit to the Lam Tin Polyclinic Clinic was arranged for them on four different occasions.

Through a brief introduction to the various services provided by public health nurses in the Department of Health and a visit to the Maternal and Child Health Centre, Woman Health Centre and Student Health Service Centre in the Lam Tin Polyclinic, the visitors gained a better understanding of the public health nursing services in Hong Kong. Moreover, they were also briefed on the trends and strategies of professional development of public health nursing. Interchange of knowledge and experiences were facilitated through open discussions after the visit. The visitors invariably expressed appreciation of these professional sharing occasions which were instrumental in promoting the continuous professional development of public health nursing to different parts of the world.
