International Nurses Day Celebration Cum Dinner Party 2006, an annual event organized by the Public Health Nursing Division (PHND), was held on 11 May 2006 under melodious music.  More than 350 colleagues participated in this lively event.

Apart from delicious food, the organizer had arranged a great variety of programmes. The enlightening speech given by our Principal Nursing Officer, Ms Georgina Ho marked the beginning of our happy hours.  She briefed our colleagues of the new vision and mission of the PHND for the coming five years.  Such vision and mission would certainly guide our colleagues to work hard together towards the actualization of the higher objectives in our daily work:

Vision

To be an expert in public health nursing services for promoting the health of the community

Mission

We develop expertise and professionalism in public health nursing through capacity building and continuous professional development.

We pursue excellence in providing holistic health care for clients through quality assurance and evidence-based nursing practice.

We strive to improve the health of individuals, families and the community through empowerment, partnership and advocacy.

What followed was the prize presentation ceremony for the Staff Recognition Scheme 2005 which enlisted enthusiastic participation of the colleagues.  All of the colleagues nominated were distinctive enough to deserve the prizes and the eight prize winners also shared their aspirations impromptu.

The next fantastic programme initiated by the command of the masters of ceremony was ¡§Creating Luck with Our Hands¡¨ - a collective lucky stars folding competition.  The table which finished folding a bottle of lucky stars in the shortest time and with the prettiest design would be the winner.  The colleagues of each table immediately gave full play to their team spirit and infinite creativity with limited resources.  It was really hard to tell who was better!

Not to be omitted was another creative game ¡V ¡§Fresh Bingo¡¨.  ¡§Come to have a look!  Choose any three you like!  First come first served!¡¨¡KIt was not a ¡§Open Market bazaar¡¨!.  The fact was that anyone who got a bingo could go to the temporary fruit stall erected to choose any three pieces of fresh fruits as one liked.  The prizes were healthy and the game was funny.  It had really achieved the purpose of promoting our physical and mental health!

Happy time elapsed in the twinkling of an eye.  The four masters of ceremony led the participants to sing the well known songs ¡§To ride the wind and waves¡¨ (¼·¯}®ö) marked the end of the dinner party.  The lyrics was highly encouraging: ¡§All look forward, not backward.  Never worry that there is no companion.  Not feeling tired even going on a journey of thousands of miles.  It¡¦s faraway but do not be afraid.  There are obstacles after obstacles but don¡¦t be afraid.   All act vigorously and aim high without shedding tears¡K.¡¨  In melodious singing, we encouraged one another.  With the vision and mission on our minds, we strongly believed that we were able to ride the wind and waves to move forward by pooling our wisdom and efforts.
