Role of Nurses in the Community Liaison Division
Introduction of the Service
The Community Liaison Division (CLD) of the Department of Health is established on
Role of public health nurses in the Service
l Communicate with District Councils (DCs), community groups on Department's work and initiatives.
l Serve as a focal point for community liaison on matters related to public health and health promotion.
l Partner with the Central Health Education Unit and community groups in planning, implementation and evaluation of health promotion programmes.
Activities involving nurses in the Service
1. Stair Climbing Campaign
The campaign highlighted the importance of incorporating physical activities such as stair climbing into daily activities to echo the "The Healthy Exercise for All" campaign of the Department. The strategy of intervention was delivered through placing motivational stickers in the vicinity of the elevators to encourage the use of stairs nearby.
2. 2 plus
A variety of health promotion activities were launched in the community to promote the health message of increasing the intake of fruits and vegetables. Collaborative partnership with non- government organisations, DCs and private sectors were generated to realize community participation on health promotion.
3. I Love Smoke Free Hong Kong Programme
To facilitate the passage of legislative amendments to the Smoking (Public Health) Ordinance, CLD had initiated a series of community-based activities with the involvement of DCs and various sectors. Street booths at busy town spots were set up to alert the public on the hazard of secondhand smoking.
4. Seminar on Building Healthy Cities in the HKSAR
To facilitate the expansion of the Healthy Cities initiative, CLD had organized a seminar for participants to learn from overseas and local experts on how to build successful Healthy Cities.
The important core competencies required for nurses in the Service.
The following 3 ¡¥P' core competencies are essential for nurses to perform their roles effectively in the CLD setting :
1. P roactive
Be energetic to explore opportunities of collaborative partnerships and maintain close ties with community stakeholders for service promotion and development.
2. P rofessional
Be knowledgeable of the Department's health initiatives and competent to provide expertise advice and evidence-based practices to attribute effective implementation of health promotion.
3. P resentable
Possess good communication skills and professional image to gain recognized reputation of the Department.
