Clinical Governance
The UK National Health Service defined clinical governance as "a framework through which organisations are accountable for continuously improving the quality of their services and safeguarding high standards of care by creating an environment in which excellence in clinical care will flourish".
The key components of clinical governance are a comprehensive quality improvement programme, arrangements for continuing professional development, policies for managing risk and tackling poor performance, and clear lines of accountability for the quality of care.
