Social Hygiene Service

Ÿ             Participate in the prevention and control of sexually transmitted infections and in the management of skin diseases including leprosy.

Ÿ             Perform clinical nursing procedures; participate in sampling of specimens, microscopic examinations, carry out special treatment and minor surgical procedures.

Ÿ             Carry out contact and defaulter tracing.

Ÿ             Plan, implement and evaluate health promotion activities.

 

Special Preventive Programme

l              Provide HIV/AIDS counselling and testing, clinical and health promotion services for effective prevention and control of HIV/AIDS through: 

-       the implementation of prevention and health promotion programmes against AIDS; which include the conduction of health counselling and education activities to raise public awareness of and concerns for HIV/AIDS; and to encourage the 'at risk' groups to adopt safe, responsible and health protecting behaviours in preventing the disease;

-       the provision of telephone counselling and voluntary HIV testing services to clients who are at risk of HIV infection;

-       the implementation of clinic-based public health programmes and the provision of psychosocial counselling and clinical nursing care to HIV infected clients attending the Consultation Clinic.

 

l              Provide viral hepatitis preventive service through health education, immunisation, and assistance in research and epidemiology programme by: 

-       the delivery of health promotion messages on viral hepatitis to the public via various channels including telephone hotline, internet, production of printed materials, exhibitions; etc.;

-       the provision of vaccination service to health care workers of the Department of Health at the Hepatitis B Vaccination Clinic;

-     the provision of assistance in researches on the efficacy of Hepatitis vaccinations and on the epidemiology of Viral Hepatitis in Hong Kong.

  

Tuberculosis and Chest Service

The Tuberculosis and Chest Service provides services for clients with tuberculosis or other chest diseases, as well as implements control and preventive measures against these diseases.

 

Services include:

l              Surveillance and control of tuberculosis;

l              Outpatient service for clients with tuberculosis and other chest diseases;

l              Directly observed treatment for the tuberculosis patients;

l              Health education and health promotion on tuberculosis control, lung diseases and healthy lifestyles;

l              BCG vaccination programme for newborns and children aged under 15;

l              Assessment, preventive, curative and rehabilitative services for clients with pneumoconiosis; and

l              Research stuidies on tuberculosis and other chest diseases
